Farmers' Health Clinic!

The Festival is quickly approaching and it is down to the last day to get everything set in stone. Yesterday we contacted a Milk Hauler in Saint Lawrence County to ask if they could hand out flyers of the Farmers' Health Clinic. They gladly accepted to hand them out on Friday, today, when they make their rounds to farms. We hope to see you all at the Local Living Festival to help paint and enjoy all of the workshops happening at the farm! It is going to be a blast!

Farmer Stories!

There hasn't been a post in a while about Farmer's Health and Safety. I was looking up some information and I found this website for you to check out: National Safety for Farmers Health

It is great that websites like this one exist for farmers because the internet can be a great resource. Most farmers are completetly busy 24/7 and don't have the time to be on a computer. It doesn;t hurt to spend 20 minutes researching ways to make your job safer for you and your workers. With new technology in today's society, there are many things we can do to protect our health. At Occupational Health we want all jobs to be safe for everyone. Over these past 6 weeks I have heard so many farming accidents stories. Most of the stories I have heard, could have been prevented if taken the right precautionary measures. I would like to hear other stories from around the world. Tell us at Occupational Health Clinical Center (OHCC)  your story in the comments below.

These stories are pretty powerful. Click the video to watch the personal stories:

Don't forget on the right hand side is a poll about farmers health and safety please cast your vote on what you feel is the most hazardous for farmers.

The 27 is quickly approaching...

As you all know that Saturday April 27 is quickly approaching and there is still some work to be done for the Local Living Festival. We have some tasks completed at the office, but we still have some more to go. The three murals are coming along nicely, but we would still like to get your feedback. If you have a few minutes to spare, please fill out our North Country Local Living Survey, for your ideas to be portrayed in one of our three murals! (Link is located on the right side) Our artist would love to have more ideas from the community members, so we have nine different images that represent an underlying theme on the three murals.

At the festival we plan to have someone representing NYCAMH doing some demonstrations either of animal handling or tractor safety for the community. The representative from NYCAMH may also bring samples from their catalog to show the public of what they have to offer. We also plan to have a representative of the Finger Lake's Region to share their knowledge of Migrant Farmworker Safety.
We hope to see you at the Local Living Festival! Make sure to stop by one of our exhibits, we would be glad to share our information with you!

Marion and Miles Meeting

Yesterday Relani and I had a meeting with Marion Bradish, a local painter who is helping with the three murals and Miles Manchester, who is building the frame to the murals. The ideas came flowing from both of them, which was great. Each mural will be 8' by 4' and have 3 panels with 9 different images. With the 9 different images they will all relate, have an underlying message, to one another but are different at the same time.
When visiting the county historian yesterday, they had come up with great ideas for each mural with a theme that connects all 9 images. I won't tell you what we've come up with so far because we want you to come help paint the mural and for you to figure out with the theme is with each three. Remember you can help by filling out the Local Living in the North Country Survey. The link to the survey is on the right hand side of the page. Help us figure out what should be dipicted in the Murals by filling it out!
Below are some of the photos we found at the historian yesterday.
